White Sox look for series win over Dodgers

The first two-homer game of Jake Burger’s career was special to him, and not just because it helped him Chicago White Sox end three game losing streak

it was because one of the explosions came against los angeles dodgers Ace Clayton Kershaw, a potential Hall of Famer

Burger went deep twice and drove in three runs on Wednesday. white sox dropped it dodgers 8-4. He will look to follow up his big game when the teams play the rubber match of the three-game series in Los Angeles on Thursday night

“That was special,” Burger said of Kershaw’s homer in his second inning. “He’s such an incredible pitcher. … I was lucky to get one from him.”

The Burger family is one of divided allegiance during the first series of his career at Dodger Stadium.

“My wife’s family grew up here, so the house is definitely divided,” said Burger, a 27-year-old St. Louis resident. “Her grandfather passed away a few years ago and was the biggest Dodger fan, so it meant hitting up Kershaw and being here at Dodger Stadium.”

Burger’s second homer was a two-run blast off the left field foul pole against Yancy Almonte in the eighth inning to tie the score at 4–4.

Burger got a good look in the tying shot.

“My reaction was that I didn’t know whether it was going to be fair or not,” he said. “I’m not one of those (watch) home runs very often.”

Burger is on a power streak, hitting five homers in his last 11 games to increase his season tally to 15.

On Wednesday, he got the support of some teammates. Luis Robert Jr. also homered, Clint Frazier hit the tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, and Yasmani Grandal had three of Chicago’s 13 hits.

Kershaw pitched six innings and departed with a 4–2 lead, but the Los Angeles bullpen gave up six runs in the eighth and ninth innings.

dodgers Manager Dave Roberts was not happy about it, as the bullpen had been one of the worst all season. The relief crew’s collective 4.90 ERA is worst in the National League.

“It’s not workload,” Roberts said. “It’s not the wrong lane or the right lane — it’s they need to get better. Period.”

Los Angeles managed just seven hits on Wednesday. Miguel Rojas drove in a two-run single and Mookie Betts hit a two-run single.
