Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson showed his support for fellow artists and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike through a historic donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Relief Fund.
The actors went on strike for the first time on July 14 after their contract expired. Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) Ended up citing concerns over their residuals from streaming platforms and AI use.
As the strike — along with the Writers Guild of America’s own strike — continues with no end in sight in sight, the veteran actor helped ensure that the less fortunate of SAG-AFTRA’s 160,000 members are supported financially as all production in Hollywood has ground to a halt.
Talking to Variety, Courtney B. VanceThe president of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation (a non-profit organization affiliated with the union, though not part of it) revealed Dwayne’s incredible support of his fund: a seven-figure donation that marked the fund’s “largest single donation ever received from one individual.”
His donation came after a letter from Courtney and executive director sid wilson wrote the union’s highest-grossing 2,700 actors, some of whom are Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Vin Diesel, Tom Cruise, Zoe Saldanaand others.
