74 year old Fleetwood Mac singer Exhibited Pausing briefly during the concert at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Monday, May 22, to thank Swift, 32, for a powerful song from her latest album, Midnight, “Thank you Taylor Swift for doing me a favor, and that is, writing a song called ‘You’re On Your Own, Kid,'” Nick told the crowd. “That’s sadly how I feel.”
He described his decades-long friendship with McVey, who died in November 2022 at age 79. “Even on the other side of the world, we didn’t have to talk on the phone. We weren’t really, you know, phone buddies,” the “Edge of Seventeen” singer confessed. “We’d go back to Fleetwood Mac, and we’d walk in and just be like, ‘Little sister, how are you? “It was like not even a minute had passed. In our entire 47 years, there had never been an argument – never.”
Nick ends his tribute by saying, “When we were both alone, baby. We always were, and now, I’m learning to be on my own, baby, by myself. You helped me do that.” Helped. Thanks.”
McVie’s cause of death was revealed last month, with his death certificate citing a stroke and a secondary cause of cancer. When the British musician’s family announced his eventual passing, their statement said he had suffered “a short illness”.
Fleetwood Mac started in the late 60s with Peter Green, jeremy spencer, John McVie And mick fleetwood, Christine – who was married to John from 1968 to 1976 – officially joined the band in 1970. When news broke of Christine’s death, Nick was one of the first to share his public condolences. “A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975 has passed away. I wanted to go to London – but we were told to wait,” she wrote in a letter shared via Instagram in November 2022. I thought maybe I could get her to sing this song to me, and So, now I am singing this song for him. I always knew that one day I would need these words.”
The Grammy winner quoted the lyrics of Haim’s 2020 song “Hallelujah.”
Meanwhile, Swift plans to release “You’re on Your Own, Kid” in October 2022. The ballad quickly became a fan favorite for its emotional lyrics and storytelling. “Because the pages were turned with burnt bridges / All you lose is a step you take / So, make friendship bracelets, take the moment and savor it,” she sings. “You have no reason to be afraid / You’re on your own, baby / Yeah, you can face it / You’re on your own, baby / You always have been.”
