Commemoration of a major milestone. Rob Lowe Celebrated 33 years of sobriety by sharing an inspirational message with fans.
“33 years ago today I found recovery and a tribe that has sustained me on my incredible, grateful journey,” 59-year-old parks and Recreation the alum captioned a shirtless photo of him taking a sunset swim in the ocean on Wednesday, May 10, via Instagram. “My life is full of love, family, God, opportunity, friends, work, dogs, and fun.”
He shared words of encouragement for those “struggling with any type of addiction,” writing, “Hope and happiness are waiting if you seek it, and are willing to work for it!”
outsiders The star’s celebrity friends praised him in the comments section of the post. “We are so proud of you. We love you so much,” wrote Gwyneth PaltrowWhereas Kristin Chenoweth commented with two red heart emojis.
Lowe’s youngest son, John Owen Lowe, 28, also congratulated his father on his achievement – poking fun at his dad’s choice of photo. “Proud of your recovery, the opposite sentiment from this selfie,” he teased.
West Wing The alum quit drinking in 1990, a year before he and his wife sherrill berkoff — with whom they also have 30-year-old son Matthew — tied the knot. He first credited his wife with saving his life by telling entertainment tonight in May 2021 that he decided to end his “80s wild boy madness” because of her.
“She was worth changing my life,” said Rob. “And so I’m really lucky that this happened to me. I might have turned it around on my own, maybe, but it could have been a big one. And when I met her, I knew If I couldn’t work with him, I certainly couldn’t work with anyone else.
Rob’s sobriety anniversary comes a month after he presented John – with whom he stars in the Netflix comedy Unstable — with a five-year sobriety chip on an episode of the drew barrymore show, “I love you. Proud of you,” she said before hugging her son.
The emotional moment left John “speechless” as he quipped, “I usually give a witty retort. I don’t have one for her. That was very nice of you.”
9-1-1: Lone Star Writer – who also appeared in the TV series Mill and film vacation in the woods With Rob – previously opened up about his own addiction struggles in Apr 2020. He marked his second year of sobriety via Instagram by posting a side-by-side photo of him holding a bottle of wine and his sobriety chart.
John wrote at the time, “Two years in and I’m more grateful than ever that I have a community of support and friends who continue to build me up and hold me accountable.” “Making the decision to change your life is difficult at any age, but as a young person I hope I can be a small example that it is possible and that things really do get a lot better.”
Encouraging people going through similar experiences to “reach out to someone,” she ended her post by writing, “Life shouldn’t be short and we don’t have to blow it!”
