During the first episode of Dave Coulier’s new full house rewind podcast, the show’s creator Jeff Franklin sat down to remember the early days of the show and recount what happened during the cast’s first table reading – which resulted in John almost leaving the show.
“The first person to be cast was Jodie Sweetin,” Jeff recalled. He remembered being impressed by her talent at the age of four. “It’s Shirley Temple incarnate,” he said. “What’s up with this little girl? She’s out in the park telling jokes.”
“So, we sent the script to Jody. I don’t know if he read it – or it was read to him,” Jeff joked. “So, Jody was the first.”
At that first table read with the cast, Jodie’s talents once again shined and John trembled as a result.
Dave recalled, “I remember walking out with John and he said, ‘The whole show would be hers! We can’t do that. ‘”
Jeff said, “We had our first table read where there was a room full of studio and network executives and probably everyone who was there.” “I think they were all there to see Stamos.” However, Jeff added, “There were probably a hundred people in the room – and Jody robbed the party.”
“I found out much later that he was so upset about playing second fiddle to these very funny kids that he went out and called his agent and said, ‘Ah, that’s a mistake. Get me off the show.'”
in a recent episode of hot onesJohn shares his side of the story: “We did a table read of it, and I was the star. I was coming out of general Hospitaland all mothers were like [fawning], And we sit down, and we start reading. And Jodie Sweetin, who plays Stephanie, reads her lines, and people are rolling in laughter. I mean yell. I was like, ‘What’s happening here?’ You couldn’t even hear my lines they were laughing so hard [Jodie],
Jeff joked: “Eventually, he made peace with the fact that he’s working with kids and animals and being on stage.”
A entire house without John Stamos?? Or any of the cast for that matter??
😮💨 Really glad everything worked out.
‘Cause the show really wouldn’t be the same without any of its cast members.
