Jessica Chastain walked the red carpet at the 2023 Tony Awards with a very special someone by her side — her grandmother Marilyn Hearst. The two smiled for photographs together before entering the ceremony.
Chastain wore a sunshine yellow gown with a matching cape, while her grandmother chose a dove gray dress with a matching shawl. Chastain was accompanied by her husband Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo at the ceremony. The couple, who married in 2017 and share two daughters, were photographed outside the United Palace Theater in NYC, where this year’s awards ceremony is being held.
Chastain is nominated for her role in the revival of Henrik Ibsen’s feminist classic, “A Doll’s House”. If she wins on Sunday night, the Oscar winner will halve the EGOT.
Back in May, Chastain spoke during an interview on the Today Show about the sacrifices her grandmother and her mother, Jeri Chastain, made to raise her and support her career. When she first moved to New York, she revealed that her grandmother used to send her clothes from TJ Maxx in the mail.
“My mother and my grandmother were really there for me and they made sacrifices with their lives,” she continued, and related the price she paid as women to the themes of “A Doll’s House”. “I think about my mother and my grandmother and a lot of the women in my family, and when I was a teenager I was very aware of what they had lost and what they were unable to gain,” she explained. “And I never wanted to be a part of it, and I don’t want any other woman to be a part of it either… I’m so grateful to them for helping me along the way, and I hope to pay back.” it forward.”
