Elemental announced as closing film of 2023 Cannes Film Festival – Deadline


Pixar Animation Studios Title Original The final film for the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, to be held from May 16 to 27, has been announced.

The film will be presented out of competition on 27 May, before being released on 16 June in the US and 21 June in France.

Set in the world of Element City, where characters representing the elements of fire, water, earth and air live in harmony, the film revolves around fire elemental Amber Lumen and water elemental Wade Ripple, who grow close but can never touch

Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, said the return to Cannes this year was particularly special for the studio.

“As we all emerge from our pandemic cocoons and come together in story rooms, animation dailies and impromptu brainstorming sessions, it is a pleasure and an honor to bring Pixar back to La Croisette. Directed by extraordinary storyteller Peter Sohn, Original Hilarious, full of heart and frankly, amazing to watch. It was created for the audience to experience on the big screen and I am glad that it will have its world premiere at Cannes.

Adele Exarchopoulos and Vincent Lacoste are set to voice key Element City characters Flam (Amber) and Flac (Wade) in the French version.

The original voice cast includes Leah Lewis (Amber) and Mamoudou Athie (Wade).

“For many years, the Festival de Cannes has welcomed animated films from around the world. Pixar Animation Studios, along with AboveDirected by Pete Doctor, it made Cannes history in 2009 by opening the 62nd edition of the festival. It was an amazing event!

The Doctor, director Peter Sohn, producer Dennis Ream and several of the actors who voice the film’s characters are expected to attend the red carpet screening at Cannes.

The film joins 51 other features in this year’s official selection, announced at a press conference in Paris last Thursday.

Fremaux said at the time that another five to six features would be added to the line-up after the parallel sections of Cannes Critics’ Week and Directors’ Fortnite revealed their selections.

As previously announced, French actress and director Maiwen’s period romance jean du barry, Starring Johnny Depp, in his first big screen appearance in three years, will open the festival on 16 May.

Other highlights of this year’s edition include Martin Scorsese’s latest, killers of the flower moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro and James Mangold Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,
