The 149th annual Kentucky Derby on May 6 proved as star-studded as ever. Before the horses raced Churchill Downs Racetrack, several celebrities attended, including Louisville native Jack Harlow, NFL player Patrick Mahomes, and Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, Danielle Birkhead. , Walked the red carpet before the event. As usual, the only thing that set the horses apart were the many large hats and lavish costumes worn by the race attendees.
Even though the actual race lasts just two minutes, the Kentucky Derby festivities last an entire weekend. On May 5, a long list of celebrities dressed in their finest party attire to attend the Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala and Belly Eve Gala. This year’s guest list included Chris Pine and his father, Robert Pine; Justin Hartley; and Jordin Sparks.
For horse enthusiasts, the highlight of the Kentucky Derby is watching the lightning-fast horses make their way around the famous track. But for everyone else — stars included — the storied sporting event is just as notable for being a place to sip Mint Juleps, an excuse to bother choosing the right hat, and to look and see around Louisville.
