Flaherty allowed three runs on seven hits and five walks, but he grounded out to Seiya Suzuki with the bases loaded to end his fifth and final inning. Andre Plante replaced Flaherty, and he started the sixth inning, hitting a tying homer off Morrell.
Chris Stratton (1-0) of St. Louis pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win. Giovanni Gallegos toss a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
