The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t hesitate to pull the plug and let Doc Rivers go after another unsuccessful post-season trip.

It was the third consecutive season they failed to advance beyond the second round, and the roster was finally maxed out under Rivers.

Now, there’s an interesting list of potential candidates to take over the reins of the process.

However, NBA analyst Craig Carton believes that people shouldn’t even bother with making assumptions or predictions, as he is pretty confident that they will hire Mike D’Antoni.

In particular, it makes sense for the Sixers to trust the experienced offensive specialist with their project.

He has a close relationship with James Harden and has known Daryl Morey since his Houston Rockets days.

If the Sixers intend to put Harden next to Joel Embiid, as he has publicly requested, then bringing in their former coach from his best season could be a step in the right direction.

D’Antoni is a dependable coach with plenty of playoff experience and one of the best offensive specialists in association history, and he was one win away from the NBA Finals in Harden’s prime.

Nick Nurse, Montee Williams, Mike Budenholzer and even Sam Cassel could be worthy and interesting options for the Sixers.

But their offense was predictable and stable at times down Rivers, and D’Antoni could also help Tyrese Maxi grow and develop his true potential.

Still, perhaps their biggest priority should be to move on from Tobias Harris’ terrible contract, and then focus on signing a coach.
