Adam Sandler and Timothée Chalamet play basketball in NYC

It seems that Hollywood really is a small world. On July 20, the most unexpected of celebrity friendships – Adam Sandler and Timothée Chalamet – were spotted playing basketball in New York City. Casually engaging in a game of pickup, the (very sweaty) actors dribbled, passed, shot hoops and exchanged fists among a group of friends. Who knew these two were friends?

In true Adam Sandler fashion, the 56-year-old actor wore a gray T-shirt that hilariously read, “Let me ask my wife.” (Sandler and his wife, Jackie, are the cutest couple.) Twenty-seven-year-old Chalamet was also matching in casual shorts and a T-shirt, though we’re guessing he didn’t plan to coordinate. While many fans were initially confused by the unlikely pairing, others were excited to see the two interact. “I’ll pay for courtside seats [though,] I’m very serious,” a Twitter user mocked,

It’s unclear whether Chalamet and Sandler met just a few hours ago, have been friends for years, or simply share a mutual love for basketball, but they appeared together in a movie nearly a decade ago. In the 2014 film “Men, Women and Children”, a comedy highlighting parents and their high school children, Sandler played a father while Chalamet played a high school student.

Sandler previously yelled at Chalamet while accepting the Gotham award in November 2022, implying that his teenage children were big fans of the young actor. Explaining why daughters Sunny and Sadie did not attend the awards ceremony with him, he said, “I don’t want to spend the whole night that’s supposed to be about me and my greatness listening to you two young clowns yelling, ‘Where’s Timothée Chalamet?'”

Whatever the reason for their recent outing, we are so here for this unlikely celebrity friendship. Check out more photos of his casual pickup game ahead.
